Ottoman Archive

Background

The Archive Building in Sultanahmet was restored in 2011 and was a hotel when opened. Researchers, historists and most important Ottoman Archives were excluded from this place to which it belonged. The project area was taken with its old function.

Design Process

After the restorations made, the mass which was creating on the Yerebatan Sarnici was removed. The archive storage thich is an anti-architecture with its interaction with the environment was attempted to destroy with a semi - covered court system and interfaces, like Ottoman improvements. A mass repeating archive units and strorage is proposed. The formal walls of building were tried to break with units, containing museum, exhibition area, social unitsi library and research rooms. It has been more interested with the public and turned into a warm place.
